Tower Semiconductor and OpenLight Expand PH18DA Photonics Ecosystem

Tower Semiconductor and OpenLight announced the availability of OpenLight’s photonic Process Design Kit (PDK) for Tower’s PH18DA indium phosphide (InP)-on-silicon photonics platform within Cadence’s electronic design automation (EDA) tools. This collaboration enables customers to design advanced photonic integrated circuits (PICs) using a streamlined process, accelerating development towards production. The PH18DA ecosystem integrates OpenLight’s photonics IP, Tower’s manufacturing expertise, and Cadence’s EDA tools, simplifying the design of PICs and aligning them with established electronic IC workflows. Designs on this platform can integrate active photonic components like lasers and modulators, supporting applications such as optical interconnects and AI infrastructure. This advancement facilitates the development of high-performance, power-efficient photonic integrated circuits for next-generation solutions.
