Petrobras Advances Búzios 8 (P-79) Startup Ahead of Schedule
Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. – Petrobras announced the commencement of production from the P-79 platform in the Búzios field, located in the pre-salt layer of the Santos Basin. This marks the eighth platform in the Búzios field and began production ahead of its scheduled date in the Business Plan 2026–2030. The P-79 platform has a production capacity of 180,000 barrels of oil per day and 7.2 million cubic meters of gas per day. This start-up increases the field's total installed production capacity to approximately 1.33 million barrels of oil per day. The project also facilitates gas export to the mainland via the Rota 3 pipeline, potentially increasing Brazil's gas supply. The P-79, an FPSO-type unit, arrived in Brazil in February and features advanced technologies for emissions reduction and operational efficiency. It is part of the Búzios 8 Production Development project, which includes 14 wells. The Búzios field, discovered in 2010, is the largest in Brazil by reserves and currently operates seven other FPSOs, with three more under construction and one more to be bid. The Búzios consortium includes Petrobras as the operator, along with Chinese partners CNOOC and CNODC, and PPSA.
