California Water Service Group Announces CPUC Decision on 2024 General Rate Case
On April 30, 2026, California Water Service Group (Group) announced the final decision from the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) regarding the 2024 General Rate Case and Infrastructure Improvement Plan for its largest subsidiary, California Water Service. The CPUC's decision authorizes an increase in Cal Water's company-wide revenues by $90.5 million in 2026, $43.2 million in 2027, and $48.9 million in 2028, corresponding to rate increases of 10.9%, 4.7%, and 5.1% respectively. The decision also permits Cal Water to invest $1.45 billion in infrastructure upgrades through 2027, with an additional $229 million available for projects submitted via the CPUC's advice letter process. These investments aim to improve water quality, ensure reliable delivery, enhance security, and secure long-term water sources. The CPUC's decision includes mechanisms to renew the Monterey-style Water Revenue Adjustment Mechanism, establish new balancing accounts, and implement a sales reconciliation mechanism, which are expected to provide financial stability and support customer affordability. Cal Water anticipates implementing the new rates effective July 1, 2026.
